WHITNEY FAMILY FUNDRAISER: One of West Central Rensselaer County Lutheran Parish’s most active families has been hit with medical problems that necessitat­e creating a handicappe­d accessible home, including two chair lifts and a ramp. On Saturday, March 10, the parish will sponsor a “Lift Up The Whitney’s” evening at 470 Winter Street Extension, Troy, with a Lasagna Pot Luck dinner, vegetarian and Gluten Free options available, along with salads, bread and drinks. There will be a silent auction, a raffle and a 50⁄50 drawing. All-evening entertainm­ent will be provided by “Squeeze Play.” Dinner begins at 6 p.m., and a free will offering is suggested. TROY 100FORUM: The Troy 100Forum is where Troy’s business, political, community, educationa­l, religious, and cultural leaders meet to talk about topics of public concern. We discuss our views, concerns, and hopes for Troy. The Troy 100 Forum is a place for us to associate as leaders, and an opportunit­y for people trying to shape Troy to present their ideas for exploratio­n and reaction. FRIENDLY SONS OF ST. PATRICK: The Saratoga Springs chapter of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick will celebrate their 66th anniversar­y with a dinner on March 17at 6p.m. at the Holiday Inn on Broadway, Saratoga Springs. The group is a fraternal organizati­on that meets once each year on St. Patrick’s Day to honor the patron saint of Ireland and to raise money for local Catholic charitable organizati­ons. ALBANY LAW SCHOOL: At the Albany Government Law Review’s 13th Annual Symposium, “Cracks in the U.S. Constituti­on: Broken Windows Policing and the Criminaliz­ation of Children,” attorneys and scholars will examine the effects of “broken windows” policing on urban communitie­s, how broken windows policing strategies have invaded the education system to feed the school-to-prison pipeline, and ways the community can get involved in correcting the system. FAMOUS LADIES TEA: Celebrate Women’s History Month and support Literacy Volunteers of Rensselaer County at the Famous Ladies’ Tea on Sunday, March 18from 1p.m. - 4p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn, 235 Hoosick Street, Troy. The women to be portrayed at this year’s event include Marie Curie, Ruth Desmond, Nellie Bly, Alice Hamilton, Sybil Ludington, Kate Field, and the biblical Martha.
