LATHAM – Vilma Sabol Gardner, 92, died peacefully on Friday, February 23, 2018 at the Samaritan Hospital in Troy. She was the beloved and devoted wife of the late William “Duke” Gardner, Jr., who died in 2014. Born in Maplewood, daughter of the late John and Julia Fromell Sabol, she moved to Latham in 1984. Vilma had been employed by the NYS Insurance-Department for 35 years, retiring as a supervisor in 1981. She was a communican­t of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Latham and had been a communican­t of the former St. Joseph’s Church in Green Island.She is the loving mother of Marcia Babyak and her husband, Peter, of Scarboroug­h, Maine and William Gardner, III and his wife, Mary Beth, of Latham; cherished grandmothe­r of Kimberly Cadin and her husband, Patrick, Courtney Babyak and Adrienne Snow and her husband, Luke; great grandmothe­r of Quinn and Liam Cadin and Michael and Harper Snow; sister of Ellen Devine (Neil) and the late Carolyn McGlynn and Anna Mae Sutherland. Vilma is also survived by several nieces, nephews, grandniece­s and grandnephe­ws. Funeral from the Bowen and Parker Brothers Funeral Home, 97 Old Loudon Road, Latham on Thursday at 9:30 a.m and at Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Latham at 10:00 a.m. Entombment to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Troy. Calling hours will be on Wednesday from 4 to 7 at the Bowen and Parker Brothers Funeral Home in Latham.In lieu of flowers, contributi­ons may be made in memory of Vilma to Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 498 Watervliet-Shaker Road, Latham, NY 12110.
