JEAN C. MURPHY

SCHENECTADY - Jean Catherine (Dillenbeck) Murphy of Schenectady, 77, passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2018 surrounded by her family. Jean was born in Troy, New York on August 14, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Harry J. and Catherine (Ferenc) Dillenbeck. She graduated from Troy High School and was a 1962 graduate of Albany Nursing School. She worked as a Registered Nurse in the Albany area for over 40 years before retiring from Bellevue Women’s Hospital. She devoted her life to her three sons; she was blessed with a smart one, a funny one, and a handsome one. She was active with their Parent Teacher Organizations and fundraising for their schools and athletics. She was strong and always fought for her children and taught them how to fight for themselves. She also worked in support of preventing domestic violence against women. She was a long-time member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Schenectady. She was nurturing and loved to garden and grow flowers, especially sunflowers. She was loving and caring, always taking in the many animals her sons brought home. She was an avid bowler and once won a bowling championship. Jean was independent and loved to travel; she was especially fond of New Mexico.She is survived by her husband, William J. Murphy and her three sons, Aaron (Jennifer) Sanders, Joshua (Marci) Murphy and Jason (Diana) Murphy. She loved being a Grandmother to her grandsons, Owen and Van, and her granddaughter, Hunter. She is preceded in death by her parents and siblings John, Mary, and William. The funeral service for Jean will be held on Monday afternoon at 1 PM at The Wm. Leahy Funeral home 336 Third St. Troy 336. Calling hours will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 26, 2018 followed by burial at Oakwood Cemetery in Troy, New York.
