HOOSICK FALLS - John J. Smith Sr. formerly of Colonie, entered eternal life on March 4, 2018 at his son’s home In Valley Falls. Now at everlastin­g peace, free from pain, he is in heaven with the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Dorothea Ann (Schermerho­rn), his sons, John J. Smith Jr. (Linda), Michael P. Smith (Michele), and Timothy P. Smith (Lisa), his daughters, Deborah A. Meisner, Donna M. Lieberman (Michael), Sheila M.Endres (William) and Mary G. Bruno. In addition he is survived by his sister, Jane C.Walsh, 23 grandchild­ren, 18 great grandchild­ren and many nieces and nephews. He was predecease­d by his parents, Gertrude and John Smith, and his sisters Mary Elizabeth Smith and Ann Baldrey, John was a graduate of Siena College, class of 1955 and the owner of Kiskis Tire & Autocare Center since 1974. John was very active in his community, serving as the Vice-President and then President of St. Francis De Sales Athletic Associatio­n, President of the NYITDA, a member of the Colonie Youth Bureau, Colonie Elks Cub, and Lions Club. John enjoyed skiing and ice skating with his children, attending his children’s sporting events, his pets, family campfires and holiday gatherings at his home. He was a season ticket holder and avid fan of Siena Basketball and RPI Hockey. During his semi-retirement he enjoyed the wildlife in his yard and tending to the numerous gardens at his Hoosick Falls home.The family would like to thank Tiffany Folmsbee, Gabrielle Smith, ALS Regional Center, Rev. Thomas Zelker, and Rev. John Provost for their care and support during his illness.In keeping with the wishes of John there will be no services. A celebratio­n of his life for family and friends will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to St. Peter’s ALS Center, 19 Warehouse Row, Albany, NY 12205.
