Cohoes man sold heroin, deputies say
COHOES, N.Y. » A Cohoes man was arrested after he sold some heroin laced with fentanyl, according to investigators from the Albany County Sheriff’s Department.
Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple Sr. said the individual who sold the heroin/fentanyl mixture was identified as 40-year- old Matthew S. Kirshner, who was residing at 136 Main Street.
According to a news release issued Friday by the sheriff’s office, sheriff’s investigators received complaints from neighbors regarding drug related activities occurring at 136 Main Street in Cohoes. Sheriff’s Investigators conducted surveillance on the residence and observed numerous individuals coming and going from the location throughout the day and night. Apple said that Sheriff’s Investigators were able to purchase heroin which was laced with a high concentration of the deadly drug fentanyl.
Apple said the drug fentanyl is a synthetic opioid which is up to 50 times more potent than heroin.
The news release says that on Thursday, March 8, 2018 Sheriff’s Investigators executed a search warrant at 1 36 Main Street in Cohoes and arrested Kirshner.
While executing the search warrant, Sherif f ’ s Investigators located a room i nside t he apartment which was set up for drug addicts to shoot up heroin that they would purchase from Kirshner. The same room was also being used as a prostitution den, where men would pay for sex with women, deputies said.
Kirshner was charged with Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, a class B felony. He was arraigned in the Town of Green Island Court and remanded to the Albany County Correctional Facility.
