Shen grad Anthony Tebbano stops career high 19 for Siena

HAMDEN, CT >> With under five minutes to play, Matt Frost completed a hat-trick and scored the game-winning goal as Quinnipiac edged Siena Men’s Lacrosse 12-11in the league opener. Freshman Anthony Tebbano (Clifton Park, Shenendeho­wa H.S.) tallied a career-high 19saves, his fourth game with 10or more saves. Freshman middie Nick Pepe (Watervliet/Shaker H.S.) handed out an assist in the loss and secured a lone ground ball for the Saints. Siena will host Canisius at Siena Turf Field on Saturday, March 24at 1p.m. Uhlig (Castleton/LaSalle Institute) picking up five ground balls each. Uhlig was also credited with causing two turnovers for Clarkston in the Liberty League win. The Thoroughbr­eds fall to 3-4on the season and 0-2in league play. Clarkson improves to 3-1overall and 1-1in the league. The Thoroughbr­eds will take a break from conference play, hosting No. 2Wesleyan at Wachenheim Field next Saturday at 1p.m they travel to 13th-ranked William Smith and Rochester on Friday 4p.m. and Saturday 1p.m., respective­ly. Clarkson takes on Farmingdal­e State on Monday in Englewood, Calif. 10a.m. Friday. The Saints held off a late charge to defeat Lafayette 7-6in the tournament opener, while Brown rallied with four runs in the final inning to walk-off 4-3in the second game.

In the opener left fielder Isabella DeChiaro (Cohoes/ Cohoes H.S.) went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored for the Saints. She was solid at the plate in the second contest, going 1-for-2with an RBI for Siena. Tyler Schnaible (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendeho­wa) added two kills.

Sage will be back in action on March 18hosting a UVC play date facing NYU on Sunday at noon and Stevens and SUNY-New Paltz will compete at 2:30p.m. in Kahl Gym. from the Great Danes. Penn hit threes on three consecutiv­e possession­s to start their run. Mid-way through the first quarter, UAlbany found some of its rhythm and began a long run of their own. Trailing by as many as 16, the Great Danes cut the Quaker lead to seven by the end of the first quarter when Jessica Féquière hit a corner three at the quarter buzzer. UAlbany trailed by seven despite shooting 58.3% from the floor in the quarter.

The run UAlbany started halfway through the first quarter ended at 23-6with UAlbany taking a 28-27 lead with 5:51left in the second. Penn quickly took back the lead, building their advantage back to seven at halftime. Féquière led UAlbany with 11points at the break. Through the first half, UAlbany shot 48.0% from the floor, including 50.0% from three.

The Great Danes and Quakers went point-for-point to start the third quarter, with Penn leading by nine at the media timeout. The rest of the third played out evenly with the Quakers leading by nine to start the fourth quarter.

Patricia Conroy started things off in the fourth with an early three that cut the Quaker lead to six. Féquière cut the Penn lead to five with 6:36left in the fourth. The Quakers responded with a 5-0run to extend their lead to 10with 4:29to go. Penn led by 13with 2:30left in the game, having held UAlbany scoreless for the previous 4:51of game time. UAlbany missed seven straight shots during that stretch.

The Quakers went on to win by a final score of 76-61. UAlbany ends the season with a 24-8overall record, improving by three wins from the previous season. The team saw a program record in blocked shots from Tiana-Jo Carter, who finishes her career with 154, and a sophomore class record in assists from Mackenzie Trpcic, whose 207were just 20shy of the all-time single-season record. In the final regular-season game, Féquière became the 14th player in program history to score 1,000career points. Next: UAlbany’s season ends after qualifying for its seventh-consecutiv­e postseason. Penn moves on to play St. John’s in the WNIT Second Round.
