Police: No credible threat of shooting at Cohoes High School
COHOES, N.Y. » City police said that they were able to respond within seconds to Cohoes High School after a student made a threat that he was going to shoot up the high school.
City officials said at about 1:57 p.m., the Cohoes Police Department received notification from the Albany County 911 dispatcher that a threat was made to “shoot up the Cohoes High School.”
Officials said the school immediately went into lock- down, and the Cohoes Police Department responded to the school within seconds. City police said they were able to trace the phone to a 15-year-old male student inside the school and immediately apprehended the suspect.
The unidentified youth was transported to the Cohoes Police Youth Bureau for questioning in which during the interview it was determined there was no credible threat of an impending shooting, according to city officials. Furthermore, offi- cials said admissions were made implicating himself in making the 911 phone call.
Cohoes Mayor Shawn Morse said in a news release that, “the City of Cohoes takes all threats seriously, and we train for these type of incidents in cooper- ation with the School District often. I would like to send a special thanks to [Cohoes City Schools] Superintendent [Jennifer] Spring, New York State Police, City of Green Island PD, City of Watervliet PD and City of Troy PD.”
