Boho Chic Boutique ready to try on a new location
Business relocating to Ballston Spa
WATERFORD, N.Y. » Boho Chic Boutique is making a move to Ballston Spa as the business grows beyond its original Waterford location.
The store, founded in 2015 at 103 Broad St. in Waterford, will soon relocate to a larger location at 90 Front St. in Ballston Spa.
A “Moving On Party” is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, which will be Boho Chic Boutique’s last day operating from the Waterford shop. The event will feature pop-ups by two local companies Weird Beard Candle Company and Storied Coffee as well as refreshments and live music.
“It’s a day of celebration thanking the community for our start and toasting us on the next stage of growing our business,” said co- owner Carrie VanDerhoof, who owns the business with her husband Greg Wichser.
Following the party, Boho Chic Boutique will move to its new digs in Ballston Spa, where it is expected to has a soft reopening on Thursday, April 26. A grand opening celebration will take place during the first week in May.
“Boho Chic Boutique is leaving our Broad Street location and moving onward and upward,” a note from the business stated. “We have thoroughly enjoyed our time here and we appreciate the platform to introduce our vision for a boutique featuring local artisans from all walks of life ... It has been our sincere pleasure getting our start here in Waterford, but it is time for us to leave the nest and fly towards our future.”
Starting the business in Waterford was a great opportunity to incubate, said VanDerhoof, but she’s looking forward to Boho Chic Boutique’s new chapter in Ballston Spa.
“Ballston Spa just seemed like the perfect match,” VanDerhoof said. “There’s a humbleness, a quaintness to the stretch that kind of fits what we project, and it’s just got that vibe. They do so much. We’re really looking to just take this to a bigger stage.”
The owners are particularly excited about participating in the many community-based events Ballston Spa has to offer, affording opportunities to be more than just a retail space.
“I’ve always wanted to be kind of a community resource - a place where we can exchange ideas, expressions, art, music,” said VanDerhoof, who loves working in a business that makes her smile every day.
Boho Chic Boutique has always hosted a variety of art shows, music performances and popups, and VanDerhoof wants to do even more in the shop’s new home.
In the nearly three years since first opening the shop doors, the boutique has grown from showcasing just eight artisans’ products to now a total of 39. “We’re kind of all a family at this point,” VanDerhoof said, noting that most are local to the Capital Region.
In the new location, “I’m excited to see how much all of the artists can flourish,” she continued. “That’s the exciting part for me.”
Thinking ahead, VanDer-
hoof said one of her goals is to hire a store manager so that she and her husband can focus more on not only finding new artisans but also boosting Boho Chic’s own interior decor products and projects. Boho Chic creates its own unique wine bottle light fixtures/wax warmers, mason jar light fixtures and other upcycled pieces. Across the river in Troy, Boho Chic has installed custom lighting projects at fellow local businesses Illium Cafe & Bistro and The Ruck, and VanDerhoof hopes to do more of this in the future.
Right, now, however the focus is all on Boho Chic Boutique’s big upcoming move. “Never limit your dream by a location,” VanDerhoof, who said she’s thrilled for this next step. “You just have to keep evolving with what works and what your demographic likes.”
In the interim while Boho Chic Boutique is closed, products will be available for purchase online.
