Alex Hope of Cohoes cuts metal in one of Capital Region BOCES Career and Technical School’s welding labs. Hope, a junior, aspires to a career cutting and melting metal, a news release said. “It’s a really good career. It’s fun and it’s high paying,” he said in the release. According to the U.S. Labor Department, welders earned a $50,830 median salary nationally in 2016, the release noted. There are approximately five dozen students in the welding program run by CTE on the Albany and Mohonasen campuses, the release said.
