WELLS 5, SUNY COBLESKILL 2/ SUNY COBLESKILL 9, WELLS 8>> The SUNY Cobleskill women’s softball team opened the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) season by splitting a pair of decisions with The Express of Wells College.

In the opener, Rachel Hall (Greenwich/Greenwich H.S.) suffered the loss in the circle, allowing five runs on seven hits with only two runs earned. She walked a batter and stuck out six. She got her revenge in the nightcap, going 3-for-4with two runs scored and an eyepopping four RBI including a double.

Senior third baseman Hannah Hoffman (Troy/Averill Park H.S.) also raked, going 4-for-4with three runs scored and an RBI. Cobleskill will next be in action on Wednesday April 4 when they host the Wolves of Keuka College for NEAC doublehead­er at Fighting Tiger Park before traveling to Union College. for a nonleague twinbill April 5.

COHOES GRAD ISABELLA DECHIARO 2-FOR-4 FOR SIENA

SIENA 6. HOWARD 1/ SIENA 9, HOWARD 0(5) >> Madysen Cossack homered in each game and both Lauren Butts and Maddie McMahon twirled two-hit gems as Siena Softball swept Howard at the Washington Nationals Youth Academy in Washington, DC. The Saints captured the opener 6-1to record the program’s milestone 500th all-time win, before mercy ruling the Bison 9-0in five innings to complete the sweep. Freshman outfielder Isabella DeChiaro (Cohoes/ Cohoes H.S.) went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored in the opener for Siena.

She followed that up with another 2-for-4day at the plate with another double, a run scored and two RBI.

“We had some young guys that went out there and performed well, and we got some more guys out on the mound, and that’s what these midweek games are about,” UAlbany coach John Mueller said. “The middle part of that game really hurt us where we had some free passes and some errors, and UMass took advantage of that. Give credit to UMass, they establishe­d the lead and kept us down in the end, and we’ll look forward to Maine this weekend.” UAlbany will play in its second America East series this weekend at Maine. The Black Bears, who will host this season’s conference tournament, eliminated the Great Danes in the 2017 America East Tournament.
