Slushy at Sonic to aid Troy Boys & Girls Club
TROY, N.Y. » Customers who stop into the Sonic Drive-In on Hoosick Street will have the opportunity to help kids at the Troy Boys & Girls Club facility get new outdoor recreational space.
On Tuesday, Sonic Drive-In announced at its Troy location, at 120 Hoosick Street in the Hudson River Commons Shopping Plaza, that they partnered with the Troy Boys & Girls Club to offer a special slushy called the “Sonic Bloom.”
Officials said the promotion will begin on April 12 and run through Memorial Day. For each large order blue slushy (which is a blue-raspberry flavor drink) purchased, Sonic of the Capital Region will donate $1 to the Troy Boys and Girls Club, with a large slushy costing roughly $ 3.39. The partnership will also include Sonic selling wrist bands to help raise additional funds.
The promotion is set to help support the construction of new a “sports court” for the use of Troy Boys and Girls Club members. The sports court is planned to provide the organizations’ youth members with a safe outdoor playground and sports facility at its downtown Troy loca-
tion at 1700 7th Ave.
“It has always been important for us at Sonic to be involved in our community, so when we learned about the opportunity to help build this important facility for the club’s youth members we were thrilled,” said Joe Di Carlo, general manager for Sonic of the Capital Region.
Officials from the Troy Sonic, which has been open for one year, said that they hope to raise $1,000 or more by Memorial Day weekend. The new sports court will be utilized to keep commu- nity youth active and allow them to enjoy the outdoors in a safe place.
“Sonic has been a great partner over the past year and we are really excited to watch it “Bloom” over the next few weeks,” said Patrick Doyle, chief executive officer for the Troy Boys and Girls Club. “We are fortunate that they are committed to the growth of our local youth. All money raised will go towards a new sports court for the youth to enjoy for years to come.”
The park will offer the ability to play 3-on-3 basketball and soc-
cer games, as well as also provide multi-use opportunities for the youth at the club, who is celebrating its 115 year anniversary of serving the city’s youth. Officials are hopeful that the new sports court will be able to open this summer.
“We really wanted to give back to the community since they have been so welcoming to us,” said Di Carlo.
