TROY, N.Y. » A man found guilty Monday of fatally stabbing another individual last summer in Troy faces 25 years to life in prison.

Anthony Rickett, 52, was convicted by a jury of first- degree manslaughter, a class B violent felony. Jurors deliberated for nine hours over two days following the week-long trial. Rickett was cleared of a second- degree murder charge.

In the late evening of July 11, 2017, Troy police were called to a residence at 115 Oakwood Ave. in Troy. There, they discovered Leonard “G” Ellis suffering from three stab wounds.

Despite the efforts of emergency responders, Ellis died as a result of his injuries four days later.

Following an investigation, Rickett was apprehended on July 22, after fleeing from police officers.

As a result of this conviction, Rickett is expected to be sentenced as a persistent violent felony offender, facing a minimum sentence of 20 years to life and a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in state prison. Rickett had previously been convicted of first- degree manslaughter in Orange County in 1989, where he was sentenced to six to 12 years in prison.

He was also convicted in 1997 of second- degree burglary and third- degree criminal possession of a weapon.

“This violent individual belongs in prison for the rest of his life,” Rensselaer County District Attorney Joel Abelove said. “Today’s conviction will hopefully seal his fate. My office will seek the maximum punishment under the law to prevent this man from ever seeing the light of day.”
