TROY - John Cromley Derrick Jr., 72, of North Lake Avenue Troy died Monday, April 23, 2018, at his residence. Born in Troy, NY, February 15, 1946 he was son of the late John C. Derrick Sr. and Mildred Wheeler Derrick. He was the loving husband and best friend for 49 years of Marjorie A. Christians­en Derrick. He had resided in Troy all his life and was a graduate of Troy High School and Hudson Valley Community College and attended Utica College. The devoted father of Samantha Ann Derrick and John (JC) C. (Erin) Derrick III; loving poppa to John C. Derrick IV and Evan James Derrick. Brother of Sara (Michael) Norberg, Concord, NH; brother-inlaw of Robert (Deanna) Christians­en and uncle of Amanda Brodkin, Kristin Duisberg, Lance Waterfield, Eric Norberg, Katie Broers and Kyle Christians­en. He is also survived by many local cousins and cousins from South Carolina. Jack worked at Devanes, Inc., Troy, as a floor installer until he became disabled by Crohn’s disease. Jack was a former member of Memorial United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Administra­tive Board and the Treasurer.

He is now a member of Center Brunswick United Methodist Church. He bowled for many years with the Troy Church League, was an avid NASCAR racing fan, supporting Dale Earnhardt before most people knew his name. Before Jack became disabled, he was a dedicated hunter and fisherman. Jack was also a founding member of the Brunswick Soccer League. The proudest moment in his life was when his son, JC, asked him to be the best man in his wedding. Jack’s best friend was Bill Dayton, who was always there for him. Jack’s family will be forever grateful for the excellent medical care he received from Dr. David Coletti, Dr. Russ Wenecur, Dr. Rich Eglow, and the late Dr. Fred Braunstein. Relatives and friends may call at the Center Brunswick United Methodist Church 990 Hoosick Road Center Brunswick on Friday, April 27, 2018 from 4-7 PM. Funeral service will be held Saturday at 10 AM at the Center Brunswick United Methodist Church with Rev. Joy Lowenthal, Pastor, officiatin­g. Interment will be in Eagle Mills Cemetery Troy.
