TROY, N.Y. » The Collar City has a new downtown hot spot with the opening of McAddy’s Pub.

The family business recently opened at 452 Broadway in downtown Troy, the space that formerly housed Finnbar’s Pub.

The Downtown Troy Business Improvement District celebrated the new business on Wednesday with a ribbon cutting ceremony including owner Susie Carrk, her family, pub staff and local dignitaries.

Already an entrepreneur, Carrk also owns and operates two businesses: Susie’s Pub and Café217, both on Delaware Avenue in Albany.

Carrk’s third venture, McAddy’s Pub, is her first Troy business. Though her schedule at Susie’s and at Café 217 filled up most of her week, Carrk found herself spending her free time in Troy. She is amazed by how many visitors come out for the Troy Waterfront Farmer’s Market, Riverfront Park events, and to enjoy the local businesses. It was a breath of fresh air to see, Carrk said, and she wanted to partake in it. “I wanted to be part of Troy growing,” she said.

“It’s been very up and coming,” the Albany native and resident said of Troy, “I just like the vibe around here. It’s a very warm and welcoming environment and neighborhood.”

So, she started McAddy’s Pub. Derived from the Gaelic Mc- Adam, son of Adam, Carrk’s brother’s name is Adam and her nephew as well. The younger Adam Patrick, nick-named Addy Patty, rounds out the name of the new family business: McAddy’s Pub.

Carrk aims for McAddy’s Pub to provide a family-friendly atmosphere where people can come to eat and drink, she said on Wednesday at the event.

Carrk, a graduate of Russell Sage College, has dedicated years of experience and passion into her businesses in the Capital Region and aims to continue this commitment with McAddy’s Pub.

The owner said the Troy community has been encouraging and motivating in her opening the new pub, between fellow business owners stopping by to introduce themselves and city officials showing their enthusiasm and support.

Minor updates have been made McAddy’s Pub, which has two floors, two outdoor patios, a balcony, a garden area, a game room and a large room available for event rental.

McAddy’s offers 32 lines on tap, with a diverse range of beers as well as a full bar and bottled and canned beverages.

Some menu items from Café217 will be available including vegan seitan wings, spinach and artichoke dip, the popular Reuben sandwich and a kid’s menu along with Irish-influenced items include fish and chips, Irish nachos and whiskey-glazed chicken quesadillas. “Our wings are phenom-

enal,” Carrk said, suggesting newcomers try them out. Food is available for dine-in and take- out.

During Wednesday’s ribbon cutting ceremony Troy Mayor Patrick Madden, Rensselaer County Executive Steve McLaughlin, state Assemblyman John McDonald and Katie Hammon of the Troy Downtown Business Improvement District all congratulated Carrk on her new Collar City business and wished her success in the future.

Following this event, McAddy’s Pub will have a grand opening party on Friday, featuring food, drink specials, giveaways and live music.

McAddy’s Pub is open seven days a week, from 3 p.m. to 2 a.m. Thursday through Saturday and from 3 p.m. to midnight Sunday through Wednesday.

Beginning soon, McAddy’s Pub plans to expand its hours to include lunch, and brunch on Sundays.

Regular live music events are expected to be scheduled soon, too.
