Come get your dog washed
EAST GREENBUSH, N.Y.>> Dog owners will have an opportunity to have their dog get walked and washed and all while supporting a local animal shelter.
On Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon, a group of East Greenbush Central School District students will host a wash and walk fundraiser event in the East Greenbush Town Park on Town Park
Road.
The students will take each dog on a walk around the park and then scrub them from head to toes before drying them off. The cost is $5 per dog and all proceeds benefit Peppertree Rescue, a local animal shelter which finds homes for dogs in need.
This event is organized by students in grades 5-12 who comprise the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council. They work with district Superinten-
dent Jeff Simons to develop leadership skills and bring positive changes to their schools and communities.
“It really shows that students want to be involved in the community and we want to give back,” said Columbia High School student Lauryn Grugan.
The group has met regularly throughout the school year for planning, they created a promotional poster to hang in schools and local businesses and they
collected donations to make the event possible.
“It’s so nice to be able to help even though we’re kids,” said Peyton Stavrou, a fifth grader from Bell Top Elementary School. “Peppertree really needs the donations so this means a lot.”
The students raised more than $1,000 at last year’s event and they hope to contribute even more this year.
