ROSEMARIE L. MANORY

ALBANY - Rosemarie L. Manory, 84, surrounded by loving family, passed into eternal life on Wednesday May 9th. Rosemarie was the beloved wife of Anthony Vincent Manory and the cherished mother of Joseph and wife Suzanne of Canton, NY and Anthony, Jr and wife Laurie of Westport, MA. She was the devoted and loving “Nonnie” of Jack and Luke of MA and William and Andrew of NY. She was predeceased by her husband Anthony and her sisters, Agostina Giamartino of Parsippany, NJ, Josephine Farinella of Springfield, NJ and Cecilia Fano of Albany as well as her dear cousin, Agostina Maroli of Troy, NY. She was survived by many cousins in Termini, Sicily and Toronto, Canada. Born in Troy on March 18, 1934 to Joseph and Antonia (La Rocca) Schillaci, Rosemarie lived in that community all her life until she and Tony moved to Avila in Albany in 2004. A graduate of Troy High School in 1952, she attended The College of Saint Rose where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, with a major in Social Studies and a minor in English in 1956. Three years later she earned a master’s degree in history/political science. During the course of her professional teaching career she also studied abroad at the American University in Rome, Italy and participated in a seminar study program in Moscow, USSR under the auspices of SUNY New Paltz. Rosemarie began her career teaching secondary social studies in 1956 at the Fonda-Fultonville Central School. In 1958 she joined the faculty at Troy High School. After a brief hiatus from teaching during which she married and began her family, Rosemarie resumed teaching as an adjunct at Hudson Valley Community College. In 1969 she became a faculty member at her Alma Mater, The College of Saint Rose where she taught European and New York State History. She also participated in preparing students to teach secondary level social studies. She taught both undergraduate and graduate students. As part of her professional years she became a member of Delta Epsilon Sigma, Alpha Chi Chapter, a national Catholic honor society, the NYS Historical Assn., National Council for the Social Studies, the American Assn. of University Professors; she also served on the Board of Trustees of Historic Cherry Hill from 1991-1995 after serving on it’s Advisory Board from 1988-91. During the 75th anniversary of the college’s founding, she published a history of the College of Saint Rose entitled OF GLORY, OF PRAISE, a lasting legacy to her Alma Mater that was such an integral part of her life. Long before retirement in 1996 she achieve the rank of Associate Professor of History. The following year she was designated Professor Emeritus of The College of Saint Rose. However, she always preferred to be called a “teacher.” Interaction with students offered her her greatest sense of satisfaction. In 2008, she was the recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award offered by the College. Rosemarie considered herself first and foremost a wife and mother. She loved domestic life raising Joe and Tony and being a partner to husband Tony for forty three years. She especially enjoyed the interaction with Troy Youth Hockey Assn., where her boys were able to grow athletically and in so many other ways. Their life on Lisa Lane bordering Cooper’s Pond opened vistas that might otherwise have gone untapped. She was also active in alumni associations of her high school and college. She will be remembered for an outgoing style, a sense of humor, her love for literature and music, and her ability to get along with many of those with whom she interacted. In her later years her greatest comfort and joy were her grandsons, each of who, brought a special spark to her life. Funeral service will be held Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 9 AM at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy and at 9:30 AM at St. Anthony of Padua Church Troy where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Richard Donovan OFM , Pastor. Entombment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery Mausoleum Troy. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of Rosemarie L.
