HAITI PRESENTATION: How did Haiti, once France’s greatest source of wealth, come to be perceived by our current President as a place worthy of the dung-hill of humanity? Are pre-Civil War U.S. perceptions of the Haitian quest for freedom still with us today? UAlbany professor Eloise A. Brière offers a look at Haiti’s past and present, from how the only place in the world to mount a successful slave revolution created an independent nation-state, to how most of the money pledged to help Haiti rebuild after the 2010earthquake went to United Nations agencies and NGOs, often never leaving donor governments. CHERRY VALLEY ARTWORKS: On Saturday, May 19, at 7p.m., Cherry Valley Artworks holds its 2018Opening Reception at the Star Theater, 44Main Street, Cherry Valley. All entries in the recent “Day in Cherry Valley” photo contest will be on view. Prizes will be awarded, including season’s tickets, Star Theater t-shirts, and print copies of winning entries. CLOTHING BARN: North Chatham United Methodist Church’s Clothing Barn will be open from 9:30a.m. - 12:30p.m. every Saturday through the middle of October. This is a great opportunity to pick up “gently used” clothing & shoes (for children and adults) at bargain prices. The barn also accepts auction donations from 9:30a.m. to noon on Saturday mornings. The church is located at 4274 Route 203in the hamlet of North Chatham.

COHOES ON THE MOVE: This bike/walk event promotes active transportation, recreation and safe routes to school. Some of the activities will be bike skill obstacle course, bike safety training, bike and walking routes, helmet fittings (free helmets), highlighting access points to parks and trails and more.
