Five Questions
Five Questions with Michael Roney: This local chiropractor, of Downtown Troy Chiropractic, recently started practicing at Underground Athletics at 251River St. in downtown Troy.
1 What is your background in chiropractic?
I graduated from New York Chiropractic College in April 2017. During my training, I provided chiropractic care at the Canandaigua and Rochester VA Medical Centers, where I provided pain relief and management in the form of chiropractic adjustments and physical rehabilitation for veterans of all ages. I also spent time working with patients at Monroe Community Hospital in Rochester, as well as the Seneca Falls Outpatient and Campus Health Center of New York Chiropractic College. In addition, I was able to provide sports injury prevention and rehabilitation treatment at Hobart and William Smith Colleges.
2 Why did you decide to enter this field?
I received my B.S. in Exercise Physiology from West Virginia University, which was a result of an active lifestyle from a very young age. After battling minor as well as major injuries, which kept me from performing at my best in various sports, I learned how successful alternative intervention could be at treating muscular and joint related conditions. I was intrigued by the success rates in treating these conditions conservatively as opposed to treating with over the counter medications and management, which are really only helpful at managing the symptoms at best, without correcting anything from an anatomical and/or movement based perspectives.
3 What types of chiropractic services do you offer?
I provide chiropractic adjustments, which is a technique aimed at treating dysfunctional joints and musculoskeletal conditions via the application of a controlled force to restore proper movement, structural integrity, and decrease pain. Additionally, other services provided include physical rehabilitation, nutritional counseling, active release technique, and electrical stimulation therapy for pain management/ relief.
4 Why did you decide to start practicing in downtown Troy?
I decided to start practicing in downtown Troy because it’s such an up and coming place to be, with an amazing intermingling of people that together make up an engaging, vibrant and creative community.
5 What is your goal for the future of the business?
My overall goal for Downtown Troy Chiropractic is to provide the highest quality care possible to those with muscle and joint related conditions, while identifying and correcting any other aspects that may be detrimental or related to their overall health. More importantly, also educating patients on not only their condition but also how they can live and be the best version of them possible.
