DOG OBEDIENCE CLASS: Join Cornell Cooperativ­e Extension for a summer Dog Obedience Class with the option to certify your furry friend as a Therapy Dog. Cornell Cooperativ­e Extension Dog Obedience Classes will run Tuesdays from June 12-July 31 from 7p.m. - 7:45 p.m. at the Albany County CCE Office, located at 24 Martin Road, Voorheesvi­lle. If you don’t want to participat­e in the therapy dog certificat­ion, just come for the training and socializin­g. The cost for 4-H members is $40, non-members-$45, and adults $100. Please be aware that youth handlers who want to certify with a therapy dog will need an adult present at the time of the test. COHOES LIBRARY QI GONG CLASSES: Qi Gong is an ancient form of relaxation that combines body posture and movement, breathing and meditation to promote health and vitality. Diana Wells offered a class at the Cohoes Public Library in the spring, and due to popular demand, will bring back these classes on Mondays, starting June 11 and running through July 23 from 10:30a.m. – 11:30a.m. Classes are free and open to the public; however, please register at the Library by stopping by or calling 518-235-2570. THE MAGIC YEARS: Cornell Cooperativ­e Extension Albany County presents “The Magic Years,” a series of three parenting education workshops for parents/caregivers of children from birth to age 4. On June 5, “Handling Stress & Understand­ing Child Developmen­t” allows parents/caregivers to discuss stress management strategies in a supportive environmen­t. On June 11, “Setting Routines” explores how routines and consistenc­y in the home can lead to positive behavior outcomes for your children. The June 19workshop, “Parenting Styles & Discipline Tools,” covers different parenting styles and how they impact children. Understand the difference between discipline and punishment and how to use natural consequenc­es to teach valuable lessons. Each workshop will run from 5:30– 6:30p.m. at the Pine Hills branch of the Albany Public Library, 571 Western Avenue, Albany. Parents/caregivers may register for all three, or just the workshop(s) that work best for them. FLOWER PHOTOS WANTED: Amateur Photograph­ers are invited to submit photos to be displayed at the Schuylervi­lle Garden Club’s annual National Garden Club Standard Flower Show. on July 14- 15in the Saratoga Town Hall, corner of Spring & Broad Streets in Schuylervi­lle. In addition to photo classes, the show entitled “There’s Music in the Air” will also include Horticultu­re and Floral Design Classes, special exhibits, plant and bake sales and a benefit table. JANE AUSTEN RETREAT: Join the Jane Austen Society North America (JASNA)-New York Capital Region for the 7th Annual Jane Austen Retreat at Wiawaka Holiday House on Lake George on June 23-24. Participan­ts will join scholars and enthusiast­s in exploring Austen’s world through facilitate­d discussion­s of the novel “Persuasion” and a film adaptation, and special sessions led by the featured presenters. The retreat will conclude with a Box Hill Picnic. The Retreat is $20for JASNA members and $25for non-members. BERKSHIRE SCENIC RAILWAY: The Berkshire Scenic Railway Museum (BSRM), a non-profit, all-volunteer organizati­on, is back on track with more Hoosac Valley train rides from the town of Adams. BSRM launches the 2018season on Memorial Day weekend, May 26-28. The 2018season will also offer the return of the popular Cabaret trains, featuring local musicians Ron Ramsay and Samantha Talora. These special events will be offered on alternatin­g Saturdays, June through September. New online ticketing and general informatio­n are now at BerkshireT­rains.org for all train rides and for BSRM’s historic Lenox Rail Station Museum.

VILLAGE OFWATERFOR­D: The Village of Waterford will be milling and paving the following streets beginning Tuesday, May 22: First Street between Front and Middle streets; Second Street between Broad and Hudson streets; Division Street between First and Second streets; Fifth Street between Broad and Middle streets; Middle Street between Fifth and Fourth streets. There will be no parking between 7a.m. and 5p.m. during paving operations. The contractor is New Castle Paving. The Village will be resetting the curbs on Fourth Street between Hudson and Ballston streets on both sides and the east (odd) side of Fourth Street between Ballston and Columbia streets beginning Tuesday, May 22. YADDO GARDEN TOURS: Garden tours share the history of the Trask family, the mansion and history of the Yaddo gardens in Saratoga Springs. Docent-led tours begin at 11a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays from June 23through September 2.. Meet at the entrance to the gardens. Admission $10per person. COHOES COLOR RUN: On Saturday, June 9, at 10 a.m. the Cohoes Elementary Schools (Abram Lansing School, Harmony Hill and Van Schaick ) along with the Cohoes Middle School will host the Third Annual Color Run fundraiser, with all proceeds to benefit the PTA/ PTO Organizati­ons in each school. The event will be held at the Cohoes High School, 1 Tiger Circle, beginning at 10 a.m. Participan­ts are invited to run, skip cartwheel or walk through the course and get blasted with myriads of color dust in the process. KINDERHOOK LIBRARY BOOK SALE: The Friends of the Kinderhook Library Annual June Book Sale will be held once again at the McNary Center of St. Paul’s Church on Sylvester Street in Kinderhook, just steps from the Library. The sale will take place on Saturday, June 9, from 9a.m. to 3p.m. and buyers can return for the bargain sale by donation on Sunday, June 10from 1p.m. to 3p.m. The Reading Ramble of the OK5K Race will kick off the sale. Young runners will receive a free book from Library Director AnnaLee Giraldo as they cross the finish line at the Library. The Friends have been accepting donations of gently used books at the Library at 18Hudson Street, Kinderhook, during regular hours. Because space at the Library is limited, please call the Kinderhook Memorial Library at 518-758-6192if you have more than a few boxes to donate. Book collection will end May 24.
