DOG OBEDIENCE CLASS: Join Cornell Cooperative Extension for a summer Dog Obedience Class with the option to certify your furry friend as a Therapy Dog. Cornell Cooperative Extension Dog Obedience Classes will run Tuesdays from June 12-July 31 from 7p.m. - 7:45 p.m. at the Albany County CCE Office, located at 24 Martin Road, Voorheesville. If you don’t want to participate in the therapy dog
certification, just come for the training and socializing. The cost for 4-H members is $40, non-members-$45, and adults $100. Please be aware that youth handlers who want to certify with a therapy dog will need an adult present at the time of the test. GONG CLASSES: Qi Gong is an ancient form of relaxation that combines body posture and movement, breathing and meditation to promote health and vitality. THE MAGIC YEARS: Cornell Cooperative Extension Albany County presents “The Magic Years,” a series of three parenting education workshops for parents/caregivers of children from birth to age 4. On June 5, “Handling Stress & Understanding Child Development” allows parents/caregivers to discuss stress management strategies in a supportive environment. On June 11, “Setting Routines” explores how routines and consistency in the home can lead to positive behavior outcomes for your children. The June 19workshop, “Parenting Styles & Discipline Tools,” covers different parenting styles and how they impact children. Understand the difference between discipline and punishment and how to use natural consequences to teach valuable lessons. Each workshop will run from 5:30– 6:30p.m. at the Pine Hills branch of the Albany Public Library, 571 Western Avenue, Albany. JANE AUSTEN RETREAT: Join the Jane Austen Society North America (JASNA)-New York Capital Region for the 7th Annual Jane Austen Retreat at Wiawaka Holiday House on Lake George on June 23-24. Participants will join scholars and enthusiasts in exploring Austen’s world through facilitated discussions of the novel “Persuasion” and a film adaptation, and special sessions led by the featured presenters. The retreat will conclude with a Box Hill Picnic. The Retreat is $20for JASNA members and $25for non-members. BERKSHIRE SCENIC RAILWAY: The Berkshire Scenic Railway Museum (BSRM), a non-profit, all-volunteer organization, is back on track with more Hoosac Valley train rides from the town of Adams. The 2018season will also offer the return of the popular Cabaret trains, featuring local musicians Ron Ramsay and Samantha Talora. These special events will be offered on alternating Saturdays, June through September.

VILLAGE OF WATERFORD: The Village of Waterford will be milling and paving the following streets beginning Tuesday, May 22: First Street between Front and Middle streets; Second Street between Broad and Hudson streets; Division Street between First and Second streets; Fifth Street between Broad and Middle streets; Middle Street between Fifth and Fourth streets. There will be no parking between 7a.m. and 5p.m. during paving operations. The contractor is New Castle Paving. The Village will be resetting the curbs on Fourth Street between Hudson and Ballston streets on both sides and the east (odd) side of Fourth Street between Ballston and Columbia streets beginning Tuesday, May 22. YADDO GARDEN TOURS: Garden tours share the history of the Trask family, the mansion and history of the Yaddo gardens in Saratoga Springs.
