Yankees pitcher Tommy Kahnle optioned
NEWYORK » Shaker High School grad and current New York Yankee pitcher Tommy Kahnle has been options to Triple-A Scranton/ Wilkes-Barre (Pennsylvania) after Game 1 of Monday’s doubleheader against the Detroit Tigers.
This year Kahnle sported a 1- 0 record with a 7.00 ERA and appearing in eight games for nine innings with 10 strikeouts and a WHIP of 1.78.
Kahnle came off the disabled list on May 25 after being diagnosed with right shoulder tendinitis on April 12 following a drop in velocity.
The right-hander made two minor league appearances, one with Class-A Charleston and then one with Scranton-Wilkes-Barre.
Yankee manager Aaron Boone was optimistic about Kahnle’s return just a few weeks ago.
“He’s another dynamic arm,” Boone said. “It’s another good option. So when you want to have a guy down for a day or try to stay away from someone, the deeper we are down there with really strong options, the better our bullpen is going to be. We feel like Tommy, when he’s right, is one of those real impact options for us.”
MLBRumors.com is also reporting that the move could be financial as the Yankees activated right-
hander Adam Warren from the 10- day disabled list and moved Kahnle off the 40man roster.
With just over three years of service time at the major league level, he is less than one year short in service time to reach the fouryear mark and stay on track to become a free agent following the 2020 season.
The Shaker High School three- sport star attended Lynn University and became the highest drafted player from the Division II University and was also the third player to throw a no-hitter for the Fighting Knights and earned a Division II NCAA title in 2009.
