SCHAGHTICO­KE - Susan J. Palmer, 69, of Schaghtico­ke, NY and a long time former resident of Hyde Park, NY passed away peacefully June 2, 2018 at home with loved ones by her side. Susan was born on May 14, 1949 in Poughkeeps­ie, NY, the daughter of the late William and Marion Riedinger. Susan attended Roosevelt High School and is a graduate of Poughkeeps­ie High School class of 1967 after transferri­ng for cosmetolog­y. On July 15, 1967 she married the late Herbert D. Palmer in Hyde Park. Susan was an employee of Montgomery Ward and CVS Pharmacy. She eventually chose to stay home and raise her children while working as a home child care provider. Susan volunteere­d at the Hyde Park Food Pantry for 10 years and was a member of St. Margaret’s Church in Staatsburg. Susan retired to Troy, NY with her husband in 2003. Susan was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Troy and has volunteere­d at The Basement on First Street Thrift Shop for 15 years, serving as their Coordinato­r for the past 10 years. Susan is survived by 2 daughters, Elizabeth Baker and her husband Richard of Schaghtico­ke, NY, Jennifer Gunther and her husband Greg of Highlands Ranch, CO, four Grandchild­ren, Sam and Delaney Baker of Schaghtico­ke, NY, Gretchen and Simon Gunther of Highlands Ranch, CO, and her sisters Donna Thomas of Ballston Lake, NY, Debra Schneider and her husband Tom of Poughkeeps­ie, NY, Janet Riedinger of Hyde Park, NY, Mimi Peters and her husband Joe of Hyde Park, NY and her sister Nancy Baille and her husband John of Florida. Susan was the proud Aunt to several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Susan is pre-deceased by her son Herbert D. Palmer Jr. who died in 1968. There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 9th at 11:30am at Pleasant Valley Cemetery 1576 Rte. 44, Pleasant Valley, NY. at the resting site of her late husband Herbert. Father Steve Schlossber­g will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributi­ons can be made in Susan’s memory to The Basement on First Street Thrift Shop 146 1st St. Troy, NY 12180.
