Summerfest returns to Sand Lake this weekend

SAND LAKE, N.Y. » Summer officially starts this weekend in Sand Lake with the annual Summerfest.

The three- day event, presented by the Kiwanis Club of Sand Lake, is scheduled for Friday through Sunday at Butler Park in Sand Lake.

Amusement rides, carnival food, local craft vendors and live entertainm­ent will all be part of the upcoming Summerfest 2018, along with a tennis tournament, K-9 demonstrat­ions, a visit from a Black Hawk helicopter and, new this year, a “Vettes Honoring Vets” Corvette Car Show.

Festivitie­s will kick off on Friday night, Country Night, at the event site. Gates will open at 4 p.m. prior to a free concert by local country act Whiskey High- way from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m.

Saturday’s schedule includes a 9 a.m. tennis tournament, the Black Hawk helicopter from 1 to 4 p.m., a 3 p.m. K-9 demonstrat­ion then free live music by Whitewater followed by Irish group Hair of the Dog and fireworks. General admission gates will open at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

On Sunday, Father’s Day, gates open at 9 a.m. and all are invited to the new “Vettes Honoring Vets” Corvette Car Show to raise funds for military veterans from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., when car show awards will be presented. The Averill Park High School Jazz Band will provide live music from 1 to 2 p.m., before Zach and Hannah take the stage from 3 to 5 p.m. Carnival ride wristbands will be available for $20 from noon to 4 p.m.

Summerfest also serves as the largest fundraiser for the Kiwanis Club of Sand Lake to support the community projects conducted during the year.

“Summerfest is the Kiwanis Club of Sand Lake’s largest annual fundraiser event,” explained Kiwanian and County Legislator Robert Loveridge. “Kiwanis is a global organizati­on of volunteers dedicated to improving the world, one child and one community at a time. Our motto is ‘Serving the children of the world.’”

The local Kiwanis supports various youth groups and organizati­ons throughout the community, such as Key Club, Builders Club, KKids, Boys and Girl Scouts.

Funds raised through the annual Summerfest help support Kiwanis projects throughout the year.
