Man pleads guilty to DWI
COHOES, N.Y » A 40-year- old man who drove drunk with an open container through the Spindle
City recently pleaded guilty in Albany County Court.
Albany County District Attorney P. David Soares announced that Scott Law, 40, of Pittsfield, Mass., pleaded guilty to one count of driving while intoxicated, as a Class E felony, and one count of first- degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a Class E felony, before the Honorable Peter A. Lynch,
Officials said on May 25, 2018, at approximately 10:26 p.m., members of the Cohoes Police Department observed a vehicle without headlights veering into oncoming lanes of traffic on Columbia Street,
During the traffic stop the officers observed physical signs of intoxication by the driver and saw an open container of alcoholic beverage in the car. At the time of the incident Law was driving on a suspended license from a previous drunken driving conviction.
Police said Law failed several roadside sobriety tests and later refused to submit to chemical testing to determine blood-alcohol level.
Soares said that Law has four prior alcohol-related driving convictions.
Law faces 1 to 3 years in State Prison when sentenced on Aug. 21. Law also faces $1,500 in fines, a minimum 1 year license revocation subject to Department of Motor Vehicle guidelines, attendance at a Victim Impact Panel, attendance at Impaired Drivers Program, and a 3 year conditional discharge requiring an Interlock Ignition Device upon release from custody, authorities said.
