NEW OPPORTUNITIES
Over 200 graduate from program
TROY, N.Y. » Over 200 students graduated as the 52nd class of the Capital District Educational Opportunity Center program at Hudson Valley Community College on Thursday night.
The EOC is a division of Hudson Valley Community College and part of SUNY’s University Center for Academic and Workforce Development. It delivers community-based academic and workforce development programs,
and provides support services leading to enhanced employment opportunities, access to further education, personal growth and development, a news release said. The EOC’s services are provided free of charge for those who are eligible. Nearly 50,000 EOC students have gained self-confidence in their own potential, realized education and career goals, and obtained self-sufficiency and economic independence since 1966, the release said.
Outgoing Hudson Valley Community College President Andrew Matonak addressed the program graduates, like he has for the past 13 years, and left the class with some advice for their future.
“Remember this mo- ment, and remember that you did this. You pushed through and you have earned the honors, awards and certificates we’re about to bestow,” Matonak said during part of his speech Thursday night. “But also remember, this ceremony represents just one important step in your journey. As you walk across this stage and toward your future, it’s my hope that you will continue to set courageous new goals and continue to overcome the odds. Don’t ever let anyone say that you can’t do it. If you’ve proven one thing today, it’s indeed that you can. And, I believe you will continue to.”
