Dems hope to appoint ClarenWeaver
TROY, N.Y. » Members of the Rensselaer County Legislature’s Democratic Minority group are hoping to submit a resolution that would nominate Troy resident, Carole ClarenWeaver to fill a vacant seat.
After the unexpected death earlier this month of Democratic Rensselaer County Legislator, Edward Manny, the Rensselaer County Minority Office has submitted a resolution that will nominate Troy resident, Claren-Weaver to fill his seat on the Rensselaer County Legislature.
In November of 2017, the constituents of the City of Troy ( District 1) elected Manny, who was the minority group’s deputy minority leader until his death, to the Rensselaer County Legislature.
Claren-Weaver recently announced her bid to run in a special election for Manny’s empty seat, but now legislators are hoping to appoint an incumbent that would also be able to run in the November special election
“To respect the decision of that election and maintain the representation chosen by the voters of the City of Troy, another democrat should succeed in the seat previously held by Legislator Manny,” said Minority Leader Peter Grimm.
Members of the minority group believe that ClarenWeaver has an extensive background in government, a strong work ethic and a formidable base within District 1. Claren-Weaver currently serves as the chairwoman of the Troy Democratic Committee.
“The Rensselaer County Minority Office is confident that Carole Claren-Weaver will serve the constituents of Troy with the utmost respect and diligence,” said Deputy Minority Leader Cindy Doran.
Members of the minority group said that they are hoping that their resolution will to appoint Claren-Weaver will make it out of committee rules meeting, so that the full legislature can vote on the resolution during its monthly meeting on July 10.
The committee rules meeting will take place at 4:30 p.m. on July 3.
Minority legislators are urging the public to attend the legislature’s public forum on Tuesday, July, 3rd, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. in the legislative chambers, where they may voice their opinion on this and any other issues they may be concerned about.
