Not all heroes wear capes
Barker Park Kids’ Summer Series is back
TROY, N.Y.» The annual Barker Park Kids’ Summer Series is back this Thursday, this time with a theme of Super Heroes.
Local heroes from the Troy Fire Department and Police Department will kick off the free series at 11 a.m. on Thursday in Barker Park.
Children will have the opportunity to meet members of both departments, as well as to check out a fire truck and possibly even a K9 officer while learning about what these local departments do. Additionally, kids will receive a free Super Hero badge to sport throughout the summer.
“Super Heroes, with their amazing abilities, have always captured the imagination of children and adults. Yet, we here at the Music Hall recognize that not every Super Hero wears a cape,” said Jon Elbaum, executive Director of Troy Savings Bank Music Hall, which pust on the series, in a press release. “To kick off this Barker Park Summer Series, our first performance won’t feature music, but our own hometown heroes, the brave men and women of the Troy Fire Department and the Troy Police Department. It will be a wonderful opportunity for children to inter- act with Troy’s real heroes. Plus, who doesn’t want to sit in the driver’s seat of a fire truck? We couldn’t think of a better way to start the summer and hope everyone will join us.”
Following this special event, the Barker Park Kids’ Summer Series will continue at 11 a.m. each Thursday through Aug. 23 with a new performer or activity presented at no charge in the park, which is located at the corner of Third and State Streets in downtown Troy.
The rest of the series will feature Movement Story Hour with the Ellen Sinopoli Dance Company on July 12, Andy The Music Man on July 19, Ramblin Jug Stompers on July 26, Spiderman Story Hour with the Troy Public Library on Aug. 2, Heard on Aug. 9, Watch Reggie Run on Aug. 16, and Seth & The Moodymelix on Aug. 23.
