SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.» Tedeschi Trucks Band delivered a great SPAC show and then some on Tuesday, as the Wheels of Soul tour rolled late into the night.

The crowd could not get enough of Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks, so they kept on giving more.

Sometimes it’s obvious when an artist is itching to get off stage - No one likes to work late, right? - but that was not at all the case with Tedeschi Trucks.

In a fast paced world modern world where people have short attention spans, Tedeschi Trucks Band is all about taking their sweet time.

Following opening acts Marcus King Band and Drive By Truckers, the husband-wife duo returned to the SPAC stage for the fourth year in a row.

It’s not every day music-lovers get to see a show like Tedeschi Trucks Band, but luckily for those in the Spa City area, it’s every summer.

An immense amount of talent is merged into this one couple, and to top it off they’ve got a band of about 10 more skilled musicians backing them.

Tedeschi and Trucks, both guitarists, shared the spotlight for the evening, with Trucks showcasing his fancy fingerwork on lengthy guitar solos and Tedeschi letting her strong, bluesy voice soar throughout the venue.

Songs in the top half of the set like “Don’t Let Me Slide,” “Part of Me,” Don’t Know What It Means” and “The Letter” got the crowd warmed up on the hot summer night, before a beautiful and moving rendition of “Midnight in Harlem.”

As the performance went on, the extra-large solos started feeling a bit more familiar - but they were nothing short of spectacular.

In the latter phase, Tedeschi Trucks Band welcomed back on stage Marcus King and Drive By Truckers singer and guitarist Patterson Hood for a couple numbers, then wowed showgoers with a new song called “Shame” and a stretched-out version of “Bound For Glory” as the set’s close.

If it weren’t for some pesky rules getting in the way, the members of Tedeschi Trucks Band would probably still be playing their hearts out on stage.

“Wewould like to play all night but we have a curfew and we’re not allowed to play anymore,” Tedeschi said to the audience after an encore of “Statesboro Blues,” which finished a half hour later than the band’s set was scheduled to end.

“Next time we’ll play longer,” she promised.

There’s a lesson fans can learn from Tedeschi Trucks Band - and that’s to always give it your all, even when it means putting in overtime.
