Green Island – Shirley Lawrenson Gully, 75, died peacefully on July 4, 2018 at the VanRenssel­aer Manor after a long illness. A lifelong resident of Green Island, she was the daughter of the late George and Adelaide Leonard Lawrenson. Shirley was a graduate of Catholic Central High School, Class of 1960 and had been employed as the Executive Secretary to the President at RPI for many years and retired from there in 2005 as event planner. After her retirement from RPI, Shirley served as Deputy Town Clerk in Green Island for several years. She had been a lifelong communican­t of St. Joseph’s Church in Green Island until its closing and was presently a communican­t of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Watervliet. She had been a member of the Mother’s Club at St. Joseph’s School and had served as secretary of the Altar Rosary Society at St. Joseph’s Church. Shirley also bowled for over 30 years with the “Tuesday Strikers.” Shirley loved entertaini­ng her family and friends at her home, be it inside or out on the deck. She is the devoted mother of Michael (Patience) Gully of Green Island and Maria Maloney of Waterford and cherished grandmothe­r of Kevin Maloney and Molly Maloney, both of Green Island. Shirley is also survived by her two faithful granddogs, Frankie and Juneau. She was predecease­d by her sister, Sister Georgine Adele Lawrenson, CSJ. Funeral from the McNulty Funeral Home, 147 Hudson Avenue, Green Island on Saturday at 8:15 a.m. and at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Watervliet at 9:00 a.m. Interment will be beside her parents in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Troy.
