MINA BARRY

NAPLES, FLORIDA It is with great sadness that the family of Mina Jean Barry (née Mooradian) of Naples, FL, and Troy, NY announces that she passed after a three year struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. She left in peace and comfort on July 5, 2018 at 71 years young. Mina is survived by her loving husband John (Frank) Barry; her children, John Barry of Portsmouth, RI, Melissa J. Barry, her husband Marc Coudert and beautiful granddaughter Madeleine Emma Coudert of Austin,TX; her sister Mary Ellen Brady and brother-in-law Eugene Brady of Troy, NY; and her sister-in-law Mary Ellen Ratcliffe of Troy, NY. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, all of whom will mourn her departure. She is preceded in death by her brother Charles Mooradian of Troy, NY; her sister Shirley DeLorenzo of Clifton, NJ; and her parents Jack and Mina Mooradian of Troy, NY. Mina and Frank would have been married for fifty glorious years this August 31. They shared a lovely life together with two beautiful children. Holding hands was a passion wherever they went. Fifty years together was the most wonderful experience in both their lives. Mina was born in Troy, NY on August 21, 1946 to Mina and Jack Mooradian. She attended St. Paul the Apostle School in Troy, NY and was a 1964 graduate of Catholic Central High School, also in Troy. Mina received her Bachelors of Science degree from the University of Albany in 1975 and a Masters Degree in reading education from the University of Albany in 1982. Mina taught in elementary grade schools for forty years. Her passion and calling, which she realized early in life, was teaching children. She began her teaching career at St. Mary’s School in Waterford, NY. Mina then moved to Sacred Heart School in Troy, NY, where she spent many years in personal teaching satisfaction. Mina finished her teaching career in the East Greenbush, NY school district. She was so passionate for reading education that she also established and ran her own reading clinic for seven years. In addition to many individual school-related awards, Mina was inducted into Who’s Who in American Education in 1988. It can easily be calculated that thousands of children have had their lives positively altered by the influence of such a great teacher and caring person. A visitation will be held at the Daniel D. Purcell Funeral Home, 510 Pawling Avenue, Troy, NY on Thursday, July 12 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. A funeral mass is scheduled Friday, July 13 at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Pawling Avenue, Troy, NY with burial to follow at The Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road in Schuylerville, NY. Friends and family are invited to attend a celebration of Mina’s life and happiness at 1:30 p.m. at the Franklin Terrace, 126 Campbell Avenue, Troy, NY.
