Winners of the Troy Pig Out BBQ competitio­n will be announced at 7:15 p.m. The categories for 2018 are best BBQ chicken, best pulled pork, best pork ribs, best beef brisket, the Dinosaur BBQ People’s Choice award winner, Mayor’s Choice and the coveted Grand Champion title.

Along with being an official Empire State competitio­n sanctioned by New York’s Governor Andrew Cuomo, Troy Pig Out offers activities for all ages, palettes and interests.

The festival features a hot dog and pie eating contest, cornhole competitio­n, the Dinosaur BBQ People’s Choice Awards, food and craft vendors, live music throughout the day, and fireworks over the Hudson River at dusk.

Event-goers can experience the third annual Hot Dog Eating Contest with Famous Lunch, participat­e in the Collar City Cornhole Tournament, and sample mouth-watering barbecue delicacies all while hearing from Vinny Michaels, Patrick Sharrow, Victory Soul Orchestra and Tom McWatters and Sly Fox & The Hustlers with live music on the main stage.

Children’s activities in- clude a piggy bank painting project and a tent to see bird of prey such as owls, hawks, and ravens up close.

All are invited to come early and stay late for this full day BBQ festival filled with food, music, craft, activities and fun for everyone to enjoy.

“The 11th annual Troy Pig Out brings together the best parts of summer in the Collar City – great food, great music, fireworks, and plenty of family-friendly activities happening along our beau- tiful waterfront,” said Troy Mayor Patrick Madden, who will have the honor of deciding the Mayor’s Choice winner. “The Downtown Troy BID has put together another excellent array of options for attendees of all ages to sample some of New York State’s best barbecue. We thank the sponsors and local businesses for their support and participat­ion, and look forward to sharing our Saturday with residents and visitors from across the Capital Region who have made this event such a success year after year.”

“Troy knows good barbecue and there is no better place to taste the area’s best food than right here in historic downtown Troy,” added Katie Hammon, executive director of the Downtown Troy Business Improvemen­t District. “The 11th Annual Troy Pig Out invites you to chow down, peruse the vendors, and partake in the family friendly activities while enjoying this amaz- ing city along the Hudson. Awonderful excuse to enjoy downtown Troy!”
