Troy - John M.Connally, 78, of Troy, passed away at home on Thursday, July 5, 2018. Born November 24, 1939 to the late Edward Connally and Elizabeth Gainor Connally, Jack resided in Troy for the majority of his life. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, proudly serving on the destroyer, U.S.S. Charles P. Cecil, before entering civilian life as a firefighter for the City of Troy in 1961. Retiring after 29 years of service, he went on to provide steadfast care for his wife of 46 years, as she fought the debilitating effects of MS. An active outdoorsman for much of his life, Jack was an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed camping with his family at various lakes in the Adirondacks. In more recent years, he would often conquer a crossword puzzle in the morning, socialize at the Lansingburgh Vets Club in the afternoon and wind down in the evening with a paperback book rehashing the details of a historical event or figure. Jack is survived by his children, John Connally Jr. (Sue Mainville) of Melrose and Margaret Mikhitarian (Michael) of Brunswick; two grandsons, Adam and Kyle Mikhitarian; and three brothers Edward Connally (Gail), James Connally (Jeanne), and Thomas Connally. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Jack was predeceased by his wife, L. Joan Connally and brother, Owen Connally. Funeral services will be held on Saturday July 14th from St. Augustine’s Church in Lansingburgh where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Friends are invited and may call at the Frank P. McDonald & Son Funeral Home 870 Second Avenue (124th & 125th Streets) in Lansingburgh on Saturday from 9:30 to 11:30 am.
