SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. » Saturday was a special day for Jason and Brenda Jennings.

The pair was celebrating the fact that their family has owned Humpty Dumpty Ice Cream and Subs for 50 years.

Throughout the day people of all ages stood in line at the 70 West Ave. business to order ice cream, along with hot dogs and subs. As part of its 50th anniversary celebration customers could purchase small ice cream cones, small sun sundaes, hotdogs, small slushies and sodas along with Humpty bars and sandwiches — all for 50 cents.

From 1968 to 1974, Humpty Dumpty Ice Cream and Subs was run by Ronald and Shirley Bishop, then from 1974 to 2014 the business was owned by Brenda Jennings’ parents, Ronald and Jean Bishop. Since 2014 it has been owned by Jason and Brenda Jennings.

“I feel honored to be able to be here with my family

for 50 years,” said Brenda Jennings. “I’m just glad my grandparents started it and then my parents had it for 40 years and we’ve had it for four years.”

“It feels great to be celebrating 50 years. It’s fun with a lot of good family friends, it’s just wonderful,” added Jason Jennings.

Customers who showed

up throughout the day Saturday said they enjoy coming to the family-friendly business and that they always enjoy the selections of ice cream and food.

“I come here at least once a week, I usually always get a twist with rainbow sprinkles,” said Kelly Hammond. “I’m very excited for [the owners], I know they are

wonderful people who are very passionate about what they do and always give care and happiness when they come and they make me feel special.”

“Humpty Dumpty is a community thing, you always see people you know and the ice cream is always good and it’s always a friendly atmosphere,” added Lisa Meetze.

Humpty Dumpty Ice Cream and Subs is open 7 days a week from mid April until September and is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday.
