Brian Williams eager to develop county’s workforce
TROY, N.Y. » County Executive Steve McLaughlin recently announced the appointment of Brian Williams as commissioner of employment and training and director of the Rensselaer County One Stop Career Center.
The appointment of Williams as E&T Commissioner was confirmed at the July 10 legislative meeting.
Williams has over 20 years’ experience in the workforce development field assisting youth, adults, and dislocated workers with workforce options. He has specific expertise in employment and training program administration, youth programming, job develop- ment and career guidance.
“My goal as County Executive is to grow our county and expand opportunities for our residents. Our Employment and Training office is an important part of that effort in terms of training workers and providing avenues for future success and employment,” said McLaughlin.
Williams said that he is eager to start working to help build the workforce in the county.
“Building a trained and skilled workforce is the backbone of a thriving economy and Rensselaer County is a wonderful example of that,” said Williams. “I look forward to continuing to foster the connection between the skilled residents, businesses, and education providers of Rensselaer County.”
As Commissioner, officials said Williams will oversee the operation of the Rensselaer County One Stop Career Center.
The Career Center provides a full range of workforce development services to job seekers and businesses including career counseling, resume devel- opment, job search workshops, training opportunities, youth employment programs, and employment referrals.
Williams succeeds former Commissioner Mary Anne Gronau, who retired in March following years of dedicated service to Rensselaer County.
Williams also serves on several Community Boards including President of the New York Association of Training and Employment Professionals ( NYATEP) Board, the Capital District Educational Opportunity Center Board of Hudson Valley Community College, the Questar III BOCES Advisory Board, and the Commission On Economic Opportunity Board in Troy. Wiiliams holds a Bachelor’s Degree from St. Bonaventure University and resides in Troy with his wife Kimberly and son Colin.
