HVCC president named to commission

TROY, N.Y. » Hudson Valley Community College President Roger Ramsammy has been named to a panel at a community college organizati­on, a news release said.

The American Associatio­n of Community Colleges recently named Ramsammy to its Commission on Structured Pathways. R a ms a mmy will serve a three-year term beginning this July and ending on June 30, 2021. AACC is the primary advocacy organizati­on for the nation’s nearly 1,200 community colleges which enroll more than 12 million students. The organizati­on has 10 commission­s focused on special topics and comprised of member CEOs and senior administra­tors.

The Commission on Structured Pathways concentrat­es on strategies for scaling community college pathways across systems, states and the nation. Central to the pathways model are the developmen­t of academic program “maps” with specific course sequences, progress milestones and learning outcomes aligned to career and advanced education expectatio­ns for students, the release said.

Pathways are intentiona­lly designed, structured educationa­l programs that streamline the process for guiding students through their education. They aim to simplify student decision-making and enable colleges to provide targeted support with the goal of improving student outcomes and achievemen­t.

Ramsammy, who joined HVCC as president on July 1, previously served the AACC on two other commission­s: Academic, Student and Community Developmen­t and Diversity, Inclusion and Equity.
