DRAGON BOAT RACING: The Town of Waterford’s Harbor Visitor Center at 1Tugboat Alley in Waterford will host its first annual Dragon Boat Race beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 18. The Town is partnering with the American Cancer Society to benefit the fight againstbreast cancer. Races feature teams of 21paddlers in 40 foot dragon boats competing against one another in 300 meter races. INGALLS PRESERVE HIKE: As part of Celebrate Stephentown, the steward of Rensselaer Land Trust’s Robert Ingalls Preserve will lead a walk through this hidden corner of Stephentown, visiting its old roads, pristine trout stream, and archeological evidence of times gone by. The hike will cover approximately two miles and involves traversing occasional wet/ muddy areas, rocky footing and steep slopes. Please arrive before 10a.m. to assemble. The Ingalls Preserve parking area is located on Garfield Road just west of the intersection of Horse Heaven and Garfield Roads. MYSTERY BOOK CLUB: Popular Vermont author Archer Mayor will be the subject of the August 18Mystery Book Club at 10:30a.m. at the Cohoes Public Library. “Borderlines” is the second in his Joe Gunther series. Like Gunther, Archer has been a detective and a volunteer firefighter/EMT; he’s currently a death investigator for Vermont’s Chief Medical Examiner. Additional information on the book club at www. PALACE BLOCK PARTY: The Palace Performing Arts Center, in cooperation with M&T Bank, MVP Health Care, Hot 99.1FM and local neighborhood associations, announces the 1st Annual Palace Theatre Community Block Party. On Saturday, August 18, from noon to 4p.m., the area around the Palace Theatre at 19Clinton Avenue in Albany will be filled with music, family friendly activities, vendors, food trucks & more. There will be great live music by The Ill Funk Ensemble, face painters, balloon artists, games and much more. Children who attend the block party will receive a book-bag and school supplies provided by the United Way of Northeastern NY. (While supplies last). This event is free and open to the public. Come to the Peebles Island State Park Visitor Center on Saturday, August 18, from 11a.m. - 2 p.m. for a look at edible plants found in the Capital Region.
