Hudson Square Apartments complete
COHOES, N.Y. » There’s a new place to live in the city of Cohoes with the completion of Hudson Square Apartments.
Prime Companies representatives gathered with residents and community members on Wednesday to celebrate the grand opening of its latest residential project Hudson Square Apartments.
Located at 1000 Hudson Square in Cohoes, just beyond Van Schaick Park, Hudson Square is an upscale 165-unit apartment complex featuring luxury amenities.
While it’s first residents moved in last year, local developer Prime Compa- nies recently finished the two-phase project, which is its third in the city of Cohoes along with Riverwalk Apartments and Waters View Apartments.
“We really love the city, the location,” principal Todd Curley said Wednesday on why Prime Companies pursued this project. “When we saw this piece of land become available - in close proximity to other properties that we have, the golf course, the park, things like that - we thought it’d be a good opportunity for us to do another project here.”
After a few years in the planning phase, Hudson Square construction began at the site in August of 2016 on the formerly vacant property known as Sherwood Forest. Prime Companies bought the land partially from the city and partially form the adjacent Van Schaick Island Country Club.
“We are proud to be part of the continued development and success of The City of Cohoes,” Curley said in a press release.
Along with the popular amenities, “It’s in a perfect location,” said resident Mike Blais, mentioning that its close to downtown Troy, Albany and other Capital District hotspots. “I love being near Peebles Island too. I have two dogs so I can walk them a mile down there, take them for a nice little walk.”
Now completed, Curley describes Hudson Square as “resort-style living,” he said. “People love it.”
The property’s luxury amenities include an onsite salt water pool, clubhouse, bocce court, put- ting green, billiards table, fitness center, business center, outdoor pizza oven, outdoor television, fire pit table, pool house with fireplace and more.
Inside the units are granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, dishwashers, air conditioning, hardwood floors and balconies. Some apartments even have private lawns.
“It looks fantastic,” said Assemblymember John T. McDonald III, former Mayor of Cohoes, while checking out Hudson Square during its grand opening celebration. “What’s really nice is that it’s got the elements of the Dutch heritage. It fits well for the island, particularly.”
Looking ahead, Curley said the company’s goal for the project is to get each unit leased and keep it nicely maintained. The project is currently about 75 percent leased, with one- and two- bedroom units still available.
Rates start at $1300 for one bedroom apartments and $1540 for two bedroom apartments, with garage space.
Beyond that, “We are looking at other sites in the city of Cohoes right now for future development,” Curley said.
