Restaurant hosting Travers Day viewing party
TROY, N.Y. » Slidin’ Dirty will broadcast Travers Day races, including the legendary Travers Stakes, at their Troy and Schenectady locations Saturday, Aug. 25 starting at 1 p.m.
The festivities will be shown on screens at the Troy restaurant, located at 9 1st St. At the Schenectady restaurant, the Travers Watch Party will be held at the Dirty Loft, the restaurant’s eclectic event space located upstairs.
Organizers said patrons who attend either of the broadcasts are encouraged to dress in track attire and enjoy track-themed cocktail specials including mint juleps and mojitos.
The cocktail specials also include Pick Six Vodka and Saratoga Courage, in addition to Co- ors Light specials.
A news release said a portion of the food and beverage sales throughout the broadcast will benefit the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation.
The Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation is a nonprofit that aims to save Thoroughbred horses no longer able to compete on the racetrack from possible neglect, abuse and slaughter. It is the oldest and largest equine sanctuary of its kind in the world.
“The Travers Stakes is one of the most popular Saratoga Race Track events of the season. While this race is extremely exciting, we must remember the Thoroughbred horses that can no longer participate. By broadcasting this event and supporting the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation, Slidin’ Dirty is doing our
part to help the racing community and to provide a place for our customers to watch the Travers Stakes,” Tim Taney, coowner of Slidin’ Dirty, said in a news release.
This year’s Travers Stakes marks the 149th year of the race. Nicknamed Saratoga’s Midsummer Derby, The Travers Stakes is the most
popular day of the Saratoga summer racing season. The race is a oneand-a- quarter-mile Grade 1, $1.25 million race for three-year- olds, held on the last Saturday in August each year. It’s one of the biggest events in Saratoga Springs, attracting over 50,000 attendees per year.
