TROY, N.Y. » Thanks to a K9 from the Troy Police Department, a missing autistic child was found quickly and safely Friday afternoon, police said.

Police said that around 2 p.m. Friday K9 Officer Kyle Jones, his K9 partner Blair, and K9 Officer Craig Faby helped find a missing 10-year-old autistic girl who ran away from home.

According to a news release, patrols responded to 391 9th St. for a missing person. Police said all available patrol units responded to assist in the search.

Officials said Faby, who was on his way in for his training day, joined the efforts without any hesitation.

Police said that after patrols searched the area for upwards of 20 to 30 minutes, the K9 Team had collected enough information to start a track.

The release said that within minutes K- 9 Blair led the handlers directly to the missing child, secreted in a wooded area that officials said patrols most likely would not have checked for some time.

Police said that the child was then reunited with her mother and all were able to share their thanks with the K9 team.

Officials said that they referred the family to Project Lifesaver at the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office in case of any future similar events where a K-9 team may not be readily available.
