TROY » Sean Egan is wearing the cherry and white 23 for one more time this fall, surprising to many who thought last season was the senior’s final season.

“It was a pretty easy decision,” said Egan on decid- ing back to be an Engineer for one last ride. “It’s just, we are such a special team here and such a special group of guys, it’s hard not to get excited for this team and the guys we have.”

Egan returns to RPI Football after becoming a part time student in the Spring 2017 semester, allowing him to come back to full time sta- tus for the Fall semester, and be eligible for the new season.

“He wanted to finish his career with this team, on the field, and leaving nothing on the table,” said RPI Football Head Coach Ralph Isernia. “We are extremely happy about that and he’s a great guy.”

Egan was a captain last

season for RPI and was a defensive mainstay at defensive back. Egan played in all eleven games with 47 tackles, 34 of which were unassisted.

Egan was third on the team in unassisted tackles.

“He is a great example of what college football is all about. He is a gem. He’s a heck of a football player too,” added Isernia.

Egan, the Watervliet native, also had a team high seven interceptions last season. Highlights

from the 2017 campaign also include a nine tackle game against Buf falo State, a three interception game against WPI, and a two interceptions against Union.

“It’s kind of the same feeling I had after my senior season in high school. I thought I was done then too and all of a sudden i had that renewed energy,” said Egan on the renewed energy he has after thinking he was done after last season.

With all the success last season, Egan is excited for what the 2018 year will hold. Head Coach Isernia has already noted that he is

making sure the team stays focused and reminds them that 2017 does nothing for the Engineers in 2018, and Egan has bought in.

“Our new model is humbly hungry,” said Egan. “We know there might be a little bit of a target on our back now that we are turning back and shooting back at people we aren’t letting people attack, but we are going to stay humble, stay hungry.”

Humble and hungry. That is Egan and the Engineer’s motto entering 2018. A talented, experienced team knows they are talented, now it is about refining the little

things.

“We’re just making sure we got our communication right, making sure we know exactly what our game plan is going to be, and make sure everyone is healthy, and make sure everyone is going to be out there ready to go,” said Egan.

For his final season, Egan is looking to go out with a bang, and he knows the Engineers have what it takes to do something special.

Egan ended with simply, “We can’t let up and can’t let it slip away, especially with the talent we have on this team.”
