GIVING BACK
Foreva Fly Cuts provides school supplies, backpacks
TROY, N.Y. » With youth going back to school this week, one local barbershop owner decided to give back to his community throughout the day on Tuesday.
Naquin Walls, owner of Foreva Fly Cuts, located at 611 2nd Ave., decided to hand out dozens of backpacks and school supplies to youth who got their hair cut Tuesday afternoon. Customers who stopped by the barbershop on Tuesday were also able to enjoy some free food and refreshments outside of the shop.
“They can come here, grab something to eat, as well as grab some things for
school,” said Walls on Tuesday afternoon.”A lot of kids are unfortunate over here, so they don’t be having bookbags, so I just wanted to help out and make sure they have backpacks and school supplies.”
Walls said that his barbershop has been in business for under a year, and that last year he decided to just donate school supplies, but this year he wanted to provide backpacks along with school supplies in them.
“I just want to give back to my community and be a positive role model out here,” said Walls. “I want to let the kids know that you don’t have to be sitting on the corner selling drugs and things like that and [instead] give back and earn a living for yourself, so we need more positive role models out here, and that’s why I’m doing this.”
Although Walls is originally from Brooklyn, he said he now enjoys being a Collar City resident and that he wanted to do his part to give back to the community he lives and works in.
“I got love for Troy,” said Walls.
