TROY, N.Y.» College officials said they were pleased to recently be told that Hudson Valley Community College’s degree programs in Civil Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology and Mechanical Engineering Technology recently received national reaccreditation.

According to a news release, the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission ( ETAC) of ABET renewed the associate degrees’ accreditation status through 2024. The six-year designation confirms that they meet the highest standards of professionalism and teaching.

Officials said ABET, which stands for Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, sets the national standard for higher education programs in engineering technology from the associate degree to graduate-level programs.

College officials said Hudson Valley’s engineering technology programs have continuously received accreditation from ABET since first seeking it in 1970.

Combined, all three of the engineering technology programs serve approximately 225 students each year. Officials said gradu-

ates of these programs are prepared to enter a variety of engineering technologyrelated careers. Many graduates also continue their education at four year colleges and universities.

Educators from ABET were on campus during the fall semester to interview students, faculty and other stakeholders re- lated to the programs, the release said. They visited facilities and observed the faculty and students in several classes.

“The reaccreditation of these three programs speaks to the high academic standards we set for our graduates,” said School of Engineering and Industrial Technologies Dean Phil White. “We have consistently maintained programs that fully prepare graduates for their chosen careers.”
