Officials, ValleyCats hold movie night on Saturday

TROY, N.Y.» Officials said Rensselaer County will join with the Tri- City ValleyCats for a family evening at the Joseph L. Bruno Stadium that includes a showing of the classic “The Sandlot” on Saturday.

The Community Movie Night will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Joseph L. Bruno Stadium, home of the New York-Penn League champion Tri- City ValleyCats. The event is free.

“This is a great way to end the summer, and welcome fall with one of the great family movies, “The Sandlot” at a great ballpark in our beautiful county,” County Executive Steve McLaughlin said in a news release.

County officials said the Community Movie Night is part of an effort by McLaughlin to bring county government and services closer to the people.

McLaughlin also has begun Rensselaer on the Road events to introduce residents to services and county department heads, along with creating social media pages for the county and other efforts.

The movie will be screened on the Joe’s video board at 7:05.

There will also be games before the showing of the movie and concession stands open for those attending. Attendees can also bring snacks.

“We congratula­te the ValleyCats on winning the New York-Penn League championsh­ip and look forward to sponsoring this great family event with the champion ‘Cats,” McLaughlin added.
