ALBANY INSTITUTE: Author Julie van den Hout will lecture on her book “Adriaen van der Donck, A Dutch Rebel in Seventeenth-Century America” at the Albany Institute of History & Art at 2p.m. on Sunday, September 23. BREATHE DEEP ALBANY 5K: LUNGevity Foundation will host Breathe Deep Albany, a 5K walk/fun run for lung cancer, at the Crossings of Colonie, 580Albany Shaker Road, Loudonville. The walk/run begins at 10 a.m. with a program on lung cancer awareness beginning just prior to the walk at 9:30 a.m. Registration is open and participants can sign up today at www.lungevity.org/ albany. The event costs $25 for adults, $15for seniors and students, $10for youth and is free for lung cancer survivors. All participants receive a t-shirt and will be able to enjoy activities such as music, raffles, and silent auction at the walk/run. CAPITAL DISTRICT COLUMBIETTES: The September Meeting of the Capital District Chapter Columbiettes will be held on Sunday, September 23, at St Isaac Jogues Council, (Sacred Heart Parish Center) Mohican Street, Lake George. Chapter President Linda Cotch will preside. Installation of Officers will be held at 1p.m. prior to the Chapter Meeting. Refreshments will be served after the meeting. EMERGING CHOREOGRAPHERS: The Emerging Choreographers Project provides funding and performance opportunites for Capital Region up and coming choreographers. The 2018installment spans three performances in the intimate setting of Albany Center Gallery, and features eight choreographers: Meg Affonso, Louisa Barta, Meagan Corbett, Robin Crist, Jai Mason, Anna Pillot, Sara Senecal, and Laura Teeter. After each performance the audience is invited to provide feedback through a talk back with the choreographers and a reception. LEARN TO KAYAK: Join Thacher Nature Center for a beginner’s kayak course at Thompson’s Lake at 10a.m. Learn the basics of kayaking with emphasis on effective paddling strokes and safe practices. LIFE ALONG THE HUDSON: Hudson Hall hosts the launch of award-winning photographer Pieter Esterson’s new book, “Life Along the Hudson: The Historic Country Estates of the Livingston Family,” on September 23at 3p.m. Esterson is joined by art director David Byars for a talk and visual presentation, followed by a reception and book signing with the author. MUSICIANS OF MA’ALWYCK: Alexander Lindsey settled on the north side of the Mohawk in 1658. In honor of Scotia’s 360th birthday, the Musicians of Ma’alwyck will present a concert at the historic Flint House featuring music from each of Scotia’s centuries, from the 1600s to the present.
