FOUNDER’S DAY CELEBRATION
Russell Sage College celebrates its founding
TROY, N.Y. » Students at Russell Sage College in downtown Troy were encouraged to register to vote during the college’s Founder’s Day Convocation.
Off icials with the League of Women Voters of Rensselaer County held a voter registration drive during the event Wednesday afternoon.
The voter registration drive coincided with Sage’s annual celebration of its founding. Former Rensselaer County Executive Kathleen Jimino delivered the Founder’s Day Convocation keynote address and spoke about the importance of civic engagement.
Officials said the Founder’s Day activities were planned to tie- in with Sage’s semester-long effort to encourage students to register to vote and to educate themselves about their voting choices. The Founder’s Day voter registration drive was the seventh that Sage has hosted at Russell Sage College or Sage College of Albany this fall.
“Celebrating the founding of Russell Sage College is an appropriate time for me to repeat my message to our students, both incoming and continuing, to vote in the upcoming election on November 6,” said Sage Colleges President Christopher Ames.

Students from the Class of 2022 were able to hear from Jimino, who was the first female elected county executive in Rensselaer County and served in that position for 17 years, until her retirement last year.
“There are men and women who put their lives on the line and some who have lost their lives, so that you have the right to vote, so you have the right to choose who will represent you,” said Jimino. “The right to vote is also a responsibility of your citizenship that should be taken
very seriously.”
After hearing from the speakers during the Founder’s Day Convocation, stu- dents from the Class of 2022 were then given their class pin and were treated to lunch on campus.
