Pets themed Troy Night Out set for Friday

TROY, N.Y. » This month Troy Night Out welcomes pets and their owners to shop, dine and explore downtown Troy.

On Friday, people can enjoy the many specials and events from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and beyond.

September’s Troy Night Out theme is “All About Animals (& Pets).”

This month, officials extend the festivitie­s to include visitor’s pets and also opportunit­ies to donate to organizati­ons supporting animals and more.

Barker Park will come alive with local and exotic animals presented by The Children’s Museum of Science and Technology and wild birds up close from Whispering Willow Wildcare. Half Moon Tribal ATS belly dance troupe unleashes their raw vibrant talent with performanc­es at 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Bard & Baker board game café will be open for their first Troy Night Out, highlighti­ng games featuring animals and made- from-scratch dog treats for pups to enjoy.

Officials said dog-friendly establishm­ents will be noted on the Troy Night Out brochure, or people can take a stroll around the downtown area, waterfront and park with your pup.

Troy’s pet boutique and daycare Henry Loves Betty is set to team up with The Ruck to offer Dogbar: Human + Hound happy hour.

Flowers by Pesha always has a fresh dish of water out (with K9 and Feline TNO treats) and Artcentric welcomes customers and their hounds on the search for a unique piece for their home. Officials said pet owners can find out what their pets are thinking at Jean’s Greens with David Louis, an animal communicat­ions specialist, where people can bring a photo of their pet for a reading.

Also with a photo of their pet and yourself, tag Plumb Oyster Bar (@plumboyste­rbar) to receive a $5 signature cocktail at their restaurant.

The Photograph­y Center of the Capital Region will also take a portrait of people and their pet, during their opening reception of their 12th Annual Members Showand receive a discount when you sign up for a future class of “Paint a Portrait of Your Pet” at Canvas, Corks and Forks.

Officials said a portion of sales at Illium Café will go to the Humane Society, McAddy’s Pub and Muddaddy Flats will be supporting Out of the Pitts. A special bonus will be offered for anyone wearing animal print at McAddy’s.

Collar City Sweet Shoppe will partner with Voice for the Voiceless, and Slidin Dirty will keep pet owners safe and encouragin­g a low carbon footprint with donations to Capital Carshare for every glass of Otter Creek Backseat Burner sold. Peppertree Dog Rescue is back at WoodenShoe Company.

People can also enjoy various food this Troy Night Out, with “Pigs” in a Blanket and “Kibble” (pretzels) at Hudson- Chatham Winery, comforting Lebanese food at Beirut Restaurant and people can bring their pup to the back patios of The Ruck and Sunhee’s Farm and Kitchen for some good eats and special treats. Superior Mer- chandise Company welcomes FAST FOODIES with a pop-up from City Beer Hall.

People can also get cultured with performing and fine art events happening throughout downtown.

Rensselaer County Historical Society celebrates the opening of their fall exhibit “When I was a Child: The Community Remembers Childhood” and Troy Savings Bank Music Hall will host a free concert “RPI presents An Evening of A Capella.”

There are also opening receptions at PHGALLERY + STUDIO“Signal & Noise” by Jon Verney and at The Arts Center of the Capital Region “Sliver- Artworks by Anthony Cafritz” and “Business of Art- Extended Series.” Capital Dance Collective with Jorelle Pome and Super Dark Collective round out the Art Centers’ diverse offerings.
