SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. >> The SPAC concert season came to an end over the weekend with a send-off by Zac Brown Band.

Thousands of fans flocked to the Spa City venue on a coolturned- chilly early fall Saturday night to see Zac Brown and his band return to the amphitheater stage as part of the Down the Rabbit Hole Live tour.

After two short sets by opener Caroline Jones and Darrell Scott, a special guest with the group on Saturday, Zac Brown Band took the spotlight to give a spectacular final SPAC show of 2018.

The set opened with “Quiet Your Mind” followed by hits “Knee Deep” and “As She’s Walking Away,” all off of 2010 sophomore album You Get What You Give.

Then things kicked up a notch with Charlie Daniels’ “The Devil Went Down to Georgia.” An ambitious cover song, the band performed it well, especially fiddle player Jimmy De Martini. This turned out to be the first of several diverse covers the group would play throughout the night. Others included Billy Joel’s “Piano Man,” which was a fun sing-along for all, Allman Brothers Band hit “Whipping Post,” Eagles tune “Take It to the Limit,” and “Enter Sandman,” a song by heavy metal band Metallica, in the encore.

The evening also featured Zac Brown Band fan favorites like love song “Whatever It Is,” a tearjerker called “My Old Man” from the band’s most recent album Welcome Home, and some fun, summery numbers like “Jump Right In” and “Toes.”

Toward the end of the set Brown plugged his project Camp Southern Ground, a camp for kids with special needs that is partially funded by income earned on the band’s tours.

Miss Caroline Jones was also welcomed back on the stage for “Tomorrow Never Comes,” before Zac Brown Band finished out the night and the season with

its most well-known song “Chicken Fried,” during which he publicly thanked members of the U.S. military, then left the audience with 2015 single “Homegrown.”

While lots of country artists graced the SPAC stage this summer - Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean , Chris Stapleton and Willie Nelson to name a few - Zac Brown made a memorable appearance on Saturday that surely left fans hoping he’ll be part of the 2019 SPAC summer lineup as well.
