TROY, N.Y. >> People filled Troy City Hall Tuesday morning to watch two members of the Troy Police Department be promoted.

The ceremony was held to promote Captain Christopher Kehn to the rank of Assistant Chief and Sergeant Adam Mason to the rank of Captain.

Earlier this year, city officials appointed Brian Owens as Police Chief and appointed Daniel DeWolf as an Assistant Chief.

“Over the past year we have effected significant changes within the leadership of the department,” said Troy Mayor Patrick Madden during the ceremony. “The promotion of Capt. Kehn to the rank of Assistant Chief completes this transition -at least on paper.

“The real change will come in the days, weeks and years ahead as this new leadership team brings to bear new perspectives, new thinking, new approaches, and new experiences that will shape the department for years to come.”

Kehn earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from SUNY Oneonta. Kehn has been a Troy Police Officer for over 20 years. He worked as a Patrolman, Evidence Technician, Patrol Sergeant, Detective Sergeant, Patrol Captain, and most recently Training Captain. He has been a member of the Emergency Response Team, Field Training Officer, Firearms Instructor, Police Academy Instructor, and member of the Police Academy’s Advi-

Mason has served with the Troy Police Department for 21 years. Born and raised in Troy, Mason spent the early part of his career as a Patrol Officer and Evidence Technician with the Patrol Division. Mason was then promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2008, served briefly as a Patrol Sergeant, and has been a member of the Detective Bureau since 2010. During his tenure in the Detective Bureau, Mason has supervised the Evidence Technician Unit and served as a member of the FBI-Albany Joint Terrorism Task Force. Mason has received the Chief John J. Givney Award as well as various Unit and Division citations.

Owens said they are confident that Kehn and Adams will excel in their new roles with the department.

“I have had the opportunity to work with both of them on hundreds of calls for service and in a variety of circumstances,” said Owens. “In fact, we began our time in the Detective bureau together, investigating and solving some of the most serious and complex crimes. They have always been professional and supportive of those we serve.”

Kehn and Mason said they are both excited to start their new roles with the department.

“It’s been great [working in the department], I’ve really enjoyed it,” said Mason.

“I’m excited to get going and do my part for the department,” added Kehn.
