New York Apples Association launches Apple Recipe Contest
Entries must be submitted by Oct. 25
NEW YORK STATE >> During the peak of apple season, New York Apples Association has launched its first- ever Apple Recipe Contest.
Apple- lovers across the state are encouraged to enter a homemade recipe for the chance to win a variety of prizes, including a grand prize three- day autumn excursion to the Hudson Valley.
The only rule is that the recipe must feature New Yorkgrown apples, either purchased from a local grower or hand-picked at a neighborhood orchard.
As the second-largest appleproducing state in the country, New York’s 600 growers will produce 31 million 42-pound cartons of apples this fall. The state produces enough apples each year to bake 500 million apple pies.
“This season, we’re experiencing an abundant apple harvest,” New York Apples Association president Cynthia Haskins said in a press release. “New Yorkers love knowing the best apples are grown right here in our own backyard, so we’re excited to host this competition among fellow apple lovers to find some of the best homemade recipes. We want to see all things apples, from pies and breads to soups and quiches to applesauce and apple-inspired entrées. If your recipe is made from our state’s homegrown apples, we hope that you’ll share it!”
To enter, contestants must upload a photo of their homemade recipe that includes New York apples, with a brief description of the recipe at https://a.cstmapp.com/p/27848. Entries must be submitted by noon on Oct. 25.
Contest participants can purchase their apples at local farm markets or handpick their own at neighborhood orchards and farms, listed online at www. applesfromny.com.
“There are multiple varieties to choose from right
here in New York,” Haskins continued. “Because of our ideal growing conditions — from the soil, terrain and climate — New York apples are among the most flavorful.”
In addition to the one grand-prize winner, four runners-up will also be selected to win an apple gift box.
The five selected winners will be required to share the details of their recipes, including ingredients and directions, with the New York Apple Association.
