Locals compete at the Head of the Charles regatta
BOSTON, M. A. - The women’s championship double of Lily Keane and Maureen McAuliffe captured a gold medal Saturday at the 54th Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston. The two women, rowing as part of the Saratoga Rowing Association’s ARION (Advanced Rowing Initiative of the Northeast) program for elite rowers with national team ambitions.
The double covered the three-mile serpentine course in 18 minutes, 23.975 seconds.
They were followed across the finish line by teammates Ashley Johnson and Morgan Hummel who traveled the course in 19:01.127 for fifth-place overall. Also ARIONrowers Julia Rigothi and Ryan SpringerMiller finished eighth over- all at 19:05.221.
Saratoga Rowing Association alumni Liam Casey finished 28th overall in the men’s championship single in 19:40.781.
ARION’s Michael Landuyt finished sixth- overall in the men’s lightweight singles with a time of 19:13.009.
The elite training program sent four boats out in the women’s championship singles Saturday as another SRA alum, Kristina Wagner finished 12th at 20:13.199. Kara Soucek finished 15th at 20:24.571. Meridith Kisting was 18th in the category, rowing the Charles River in 20:45.949 followed by teammate Katy Flynn 19th at 21:03.903.
On Sunday, Lauren Schall just finished out of the medals, fourth overall in the women’s club singles, covering the course in 21:03.198.
Sunday morning gave way to the high school en- tries from across the nation, led locally by the Saratoga Rowing Association women’s youth eights of Olivia Vavasour, Maggie Preller, Emily Swenson, Olivia Dolan, Fiona Mooney, Madeleine Macy, Genevieve Anderson, Maecy Rickman and coxswain Grace Goodell finishing in sixth place with a time of 18:25.356.
The additional SRA entry of Caroline Grabowski, Skylar Capello, Aisling Byrne, Angelina DePaulo, Audrey Letts, Zoey Goodness, McLaren Heck, Brianna Bolen and coxswain Corinne Bruce finished 33rd overall in 19:45.026.
The Albany Rowing Association men’s youth double of Stephen Gower and Landon Thompson finished sixth overall on Sunday, racing the course in 20:22.058. The Niskayuna Rowing entry of Ethan Conrad and Nate VanDermark finished 28th in 22:10.520.
The Saratoga Rowing Association men’s youth eight of Michael Fairley, Benjamin Weatherwax, Michael Pazderski, Connor Toomey, Christian Sauer, Peter Hoffman, Cole Levy, Gil Dexter and coxswain Ilianna Romanzo finished eighth out of 85 entries in 16:37.048.
The SRA women’s youth coxed quad of Gwenn Taylor, Kathryn Cuneo, Olivia Zwickle, Emily Dweck and coxswain Skylar Shea finished in 12th place overall with a time of 20:19.320.
The Saratoga Rowing Association men’s youth coxed quad of J. Braeden Arthur, Jack Young, Karl Meidenbauer, Shane Turley and coxswain Madelaine Oke finished 13th at 19:03.300.
The Albany Rowing Center women’s youth doubles entry of Mikayla Lahr and Schuyler Ritchie rowed to a 20th-place finish in 23.42.658.
Shaker Rowing Associ- ation’s Heather Niemi finished 31st overall int eh women’s youth singles in 27:26.870. Teammate Benjamin Marino finished 35th in Sunday’s men’s youth singles with an adjusted time of 22:34.604.
The Shaker Rowing Association women’s youth double of Tara Bryan and Olivia Merolle raced the Charles River course in 26:33.690 and finished 38th overall.
In the women’s youth fours, the Emma Willard entry of Marjorie McNay, Eliza Lindberg, Kathryn Redmond, Jillian Flyn and coxswain Zoe OrsquoBryon finished 53rd overall in 21:28.038. They were followed across the finish line by the SRAentry of Rachael Paston, Gemma Ellwanger, Megan Shawver, Makaela Oehler and coxswain Issabella Hussey in 57th place in 21:32.240.
The Shenendehowa men’s youth fours of Evan Flint, Adolfo Arana, Birch Phillips, Elias Neidhart and coxswain Colby Webster finished 55th in 19:43.600.
The Albany Rowing Center youth fours entry of Nathan Lennard, Collin Kelly, William Gannon, William Convertino and coxswain Abigail Wood finished 66th in 20:26.362.
The Niskayuna Rowing men’s youth eights of Peter Bojarczuk, Thomas O’Brien, Aaron Kernick, Peter Bertram, James Schmidt, Simon Quinn, Benjamin OConnell, Daniel Klepeis and coxswain James Donovan finished 69th overall in 18:51.574.
The Shaker Rowing Association men’s youth fours of Eric Ji, Zachary Sheremeta, Daniel Lemme, Ben Richardson and coxswain Julia Waldorf finished 85th overall in 23:38.106.
